Artist
Statement
Bertie has received many
awards in local, state and national shows and has presented many
demonstrations and workshops. She has also done many “quick-draws”
including the C.M. Russell Show. Her work has been featured in the
American Artist magazine publication Watercolor -- the Spring
1995 and Fall 1999 issues.
Her greatest gift as a
painter is creating beautiful paintings that evoke an emotion from the
viewer and gives them a good feeling. It is her way of sharing a little
bit of the beauty and happiness in the world.
Her book Born with a
Rusty Spoon, an artist’s memoir, was published this year. It deals
with her childhood spent in abject poverty and later in life acute
depression, a failed suicide attempt, a miraculous second chance, breast
cancer, and ultimately redemption and success to become a nationally
recognized, award-winning artist.
